"The perfect pop songs"
When I come across a song that encompasses the closest thing to this term, it's as if my world changes and from one moment to the next and i can feel alive again, but what do I really mean precisely by perfect pop songs?
Well, nothing more than what in my opinion are the songs that make you say: "wow, do I really live in the same planet as the band or artist that wrote this?" or when you feel that "click", that special sensation when you listen to an album that changes your life.
1~ Oblivious - Aztec camera
Actually this is the song that made me come up with this term to define this kind of tunes. I can't say much more than to warn you to be careful if you know someone who is really a fan of this band, there is a certain movie with a character in it, who KNOWS it very well.
2~ Advantage Lucy ~ Citrus
wow, what can I really say about Advantage lucy without sounding like a completely autistic girl who seems to have found her new fixation and it makes her cry uncontrollably... it's a band that created the perfect structuring for guitar pop, sounds full of mellow and nostalgic optimism, when I first came across this song it was like an opening to a different world and also of course, the opening to a new fixation....
3~ Pizzicato five ~ 7:00pm Toyko
I guess i'm not gonna repeat about being a fangirl and her strange fixations, so i can move on to talk about pizzicato five, key band of shibuya kei (genre which I will talk about in another post most probably). these guys couldn't be more creative and expressive in the way they express their art. perfect mix of bossa nova, electronica, indie pop and easy listening, when you play these tunes you really feel immersed in another world. and yeah, when you listen to this particular song you really feel like you're in tokyo on a friday at 7pm.
4~ Le mans - Un rayo de sol.
Le mans is a band that is part of a really particular genre, Donosti sound seems to be that forgotten and hidden thing that when you find it is really a treasure, a genre coming from the city of Donostia in Spain, is an interesting take on twee and indie pop, perfect melodies full of nostalgia and melancholy, le mans in particular was an amazing band in writing songs that talked about the mundanity and how emotional even the smallest thing can be. and so let's have a "Un rayo de sol", I would really feel bad if I saw my special someone walking into the cafe where I work with their current "special someone".
5~ Nav Kazte - Yunige
When i think of an example of what jangle pop should sound like, i think of this first album by nav katze, it's a perfect example of what the genre is all about. jangly guitars, pop melodies and perfect songrwiting. however, it's so funny that the same girls who created this song, then started playing idm, and even collaborating with weirdos like aphex twin.
6~ Date of Birth ~ Time After Time
Well, maybe it's not really so funny the case of Nav katze, because we can say the same about the band date of birth, again... a group that in their beginnings created a simply perfect new wave ended up turning to electronic music in its most lounge and bossa character and ended up saying goodbye to music forever with nothing more and nothing less than one of the weirdest video games of the Play Station 1?
7~ Maylove - Sing Little Clam Sing.
I have to assume that by this point you have already realized my love for twee and jangle, however. I can't leave this entry without recommending this song by Maylove, it's a perfect example of how the best songs are really hidden and waiting to be discovered~.
